Season 1 - Episode 20: Last breath

They say that when you die, you see your life flashing by. Ben had the same thing. This was the end, and he saw his whole life in flashes.

How his mum would help him with his homework. How dad scolded him because he did a manical joke with the neighbour's dog. How he went to highschool. How he got his first kiss. How he managed to get accepted into university. His marriage. Everything....

Life is a bitch sometimes. You never know what is going to happen. Some people accept this fact, some people dont. The problem is that when you get into a situation that nobody predicted, people will act strange. Your friends become your enemies, your enemies become your best friends. Eventually, we all die. One sooner than another. But we will always try to survive.

Ben looked up one more time to see Alice. Her head was blown off. At least she had the peace she wanted so desperately. And with her in view, Ben closed his eyes.

Season 1 - Episode 19: Turnover

Ben woke up due to a sharp pain on his arm. He saw Alice chewing on his arm. This cant be true! She turned while he was asleep. He tried to push her away, but it only made her more angry. Eventually he got loose and ran to the other end of the room.

Alice looked at him. Her eyes were totally black. It looked like her soul was darkened out. She didnt look human anymore. Ben looked for the gun. It was behind Alice. Ben knew that if he could get a hold of the gun, he could kill Alice before she killed him. With a quick sprint he went for the gun.

Alice was too fast. She grabbed Ben by the neck, and tried to chew on him. Ben got hold of the gun while protecting himself against the death grip of Alice. She was choking him. He got finally hold of the gun, and tried to point it at Alice. The first shot missed. Then Alice put his teeth in Ben's neck. Ben shot another time, and this time he hit her point-blank. She was no more. Ben began choking for breath, while his blood came into his lungs. He was about to die.

Season 1 - Episode 18: The Last Day

Ben and Alice began running. There should be a doctor somewhere. Finally they found a pharmacy. Ben opened the door and started listening. It sounded safe. He signed to Alice that she could come in. They found some bandages, and Ben put a field dressing on Alice. At least she wouldnt have to worry about the blood loss.

Ben also gave her some medication against the fever. It was over a couple of hours since she was infected, and she fell pretty ill. Ben kept a gun by his side, to prevent him getting killed when she turned. "Am I going to die?" said Alice. "Yes, unfortunately. But at least you will see your mummy again." "Is mummy also a zombie?" "No. But I am going to promise you that you will see mummy soon enough."

When the hours passed away, the fever became worse. Alice began hallucinating. It was a bit eerie to hear. Alice began talking towards someone who wasnt there, probably her mother. She talked about how sorry she was for all the bad things that she did, and that she wanted to be a good girl. She also talked about the fact that she missed daddy so much, and that he should come home soon.

Ben was sleepy. He knew that he had to stay awake, but all the stress was too much for him. He began dozing off. Ben shokked awake. No sleep, not now. Alice was calming down. At least she was not so talkalive, not so screamy. She was looking so beautiful when she was sleeping. Ben couldnt think about pulling the trigger. So young, so dependant and he failed to protect her.

Season 1 - Episode 17: Infected

Ben and Alice were trapped. Everywhere were zombies. Ben knew that if they kept staying here, then there was nothing they could do. So Ben decided they would shoot their way through the zombie-infested area.

Ben started shooting. With every shot he got one or 2 zombies, occasionally a third. When the pile of zombies was big enough to make a hole, he got down and started shooting the rest. His ammo began to get low, and he knew if he was going to reload, the zombies would kill him. Fortunately, Alice came downstairs and tried to help Ben by reloading his gun while he got another gun.

Then, in a unsuspected moment, a zombie came too close and bit Alice, just before Ben could react and shoot the zombie. He was too late. She was been bitten. Alice knew she was going to die, but she didnt want to. She has such a good uncle, and now he had to kill her. She prepared herself for the worst. "Come on", shouted Ben. "I made a hole. Lets find a docter, or at least something to keep you alive long enough. I dont want to shoot you right now." This made Alice happy. She began running after Ben, with the zombies marching on behind her.

Season 1 - Episode 16: Waking up

Ben opened his eyes. Alice was over him, slapping him in the face and screaming "Wake up" towards him. She was crying. "Dont cry Alice" said Ben. "I am okay. I fainted because of the stress we had." "Its not that, uncle Ben. You were lying on the floor for so long, and I thought you were sleeping. So I waited for you to wake up again. But I got hungry, and I didnt know how to cook, so I went looking for some fruit in the garden, and..."

A loud bang on the door. All the internal alarm bells went ringing. Danger. It seemed that something terrible happened. Ben wished this would never happen. They were trapped inside the camper, and there was no way out except through that door. There should be something to prevent them getting inside, killing them on the spot. The roof? That seemed the onliest plausible way.

"Lets go Alice. We need to get on the roof. That way they wont catch us if they enter, and I can get a good look of where all the zombies are." Then Ben started to lift Alice towards the roof. "Get my gun!" Alice took the gun, and just when Ben was going through the hole, the zombies came inside. Ben got stuck, but could kick a zombie just before he was on the roof. Now they needed a way out.

Season 1 - Episode 15: Dreamworld

"Where am I?" ben thought. This was soo strange. It looked like he was in some sort of empty space, with a cold concrete floor. Everywhere he looked he could see the concrete floor going on. It looked like an ocean of concrete. "Hello?" Ben shouted. No answer. Ben felt alone. Is this heaven? Am I dead? Am I finally in Limbo? But I am too young to die. I dont want to die. He had to take care of that little kid. Ben realised that if he stood there, nothing would happen. So he began to walk.

The path was long and boring. Ben was thinking he was walking around in circles. "Goddammit" he cursed. If this continued for too long, he would lose his mind. He thought about a plan. Just walking around would do nothing, so he sat on the floor and began thinking.

Not soon after, he heard a noise. He didnt know what the noise was, but it became louder and louder. And with that noise, a light came towards him. Ben first reaction was to run, to outrun the noise. But wherever he tried to run, he saw that light coming towards him. Then, just before he hit the light, he knew what the noise was saying. It was a child voice, screaming "Wake up! Please, wake up!"

Season 1 - Episode 14: Nightmares

Alice screamed like hell. A guy with a gun just jumped in front of her, scaring her like crazy. She was looking for Ben. It seemed like hours since Ben left her, and she was afraid something happened to him. Now she knew why. If she was going to die, at least Ben would hear her screams and come to the rescue.

Instead of shooting, the dark figure raised his shotgun. "Its me, Ben. Dont be afraid." "Ohhh Uncle Ben, you scared me soo much." Tears came out of Alice's eyes. "I am soo sorry" Ben said to Alice. But now we need to hide. Your screaming attracted lots of unwanted guests, you know. Ben was right. 15 minutes later Ben and Alice were hiding in a camper, while zombies were walking outside, looking for that person who screamed so loudly.

Then suddenly, without any warning, Ben fainted. He was done. All that stress took such a big toll on him, that he couldnt stand anymore. Alice got afraid. What if he was bitten. She checked his body, and found no scars. "Ben, wake up..." "Please Ben, wake up. I am afraid". But Ben wasnt waking up.

Season 1 - Episode 13: The stores

After a day walk and lots of avoiding zombies, Ben and Alice finally came towards the biggest store they knew: "Brad's Outdoor & Hunting Equipment". However, there was something strange about this place. Ben felt the chills going down his spine. Something was not right. It was too quiet for an zombie infested area. Ben told Alice to hide herself. Ben checked his weapon before he began searching the place. He didn't want to end up with an empty barrel like last time.

When Ben entered the store he peered around. Luckely there were no big campfires, or anything that told Ben that people were living there. Still, he had to be careful not to get into a trap. Ben slowly walked around, listening to every single noise. As soon as he heard some noise behind him, he turned around, ready to shoot. A big rat ran over the floor, knocking a can over on his run. "Rats..." cursed Ben out loud. He hated them. When he was young, he was bitten by a rat. The little teethmarks on his butt still reminded him every day of the horror a rat did to him.

Then Ben heard a voice. Who could it be? He hid himself behind some shelves, and waited until the perpetrator came close. It felt like hours. Ben heard the footsteps on the floor, getting closer and closer. Ben was ready to shoot. And with a big jump he blocked the way.

Season 1 - Episode 12: A new life

Living with Alice wasnt so bad after all. She was a nice little girl, with cute cheeks and a lust for asking questions like "Have you ever got a dog" and "Do you have kids". She also loved to investigate. Most of the time she would disappear in a house and come back with some food or toys, but in some occasions she would run screaming out of the house, followed by the new occupants. Luckely Ben saw Alice coming even before the zombies appeared, so he always was prepared.

One night, when Ben found a house and tucked Alice in bed, she started crying. Ben asked what was wrong. "Am I ever going to see mummy again?" she asked. Ben told her that she was somewhere safe now, and that she  had to sleep, or she would be drowsy the next morning. "I dont want to sleep alone..." she told Ben. Ben promised to sleep in the room next to her, and if there were any zombies, then he would be the first one to know.

In the days after, they went from house to house. Occasionally they saw a zombie, and when they reached the outskirts of the city, they knew that they needed something better. So they went towards the biggest outdoor store they knew: "Brad's Outdoor & Hunting Equipment".

Season 1 - Episode 11: Fire

Ben slammed the backdoor open. No zombies. He still had to take care of that little screamer who was following him. "Do you like candy?" Ben asked to the little girl. Immidiately the girl went silent. "Mummy told me not to get candy from strangers." "I am no stranger. I am a friend of the family." "How come I have never seen you before?" Darn, that kid was smarter than Ben thought. Oh well, at least she came downstairs with him. How hard would it be to make her come with him? "Come, there is no time. We have to go, the door will catch fire and then the zombies will come in. You dont want that to happen, dont you?" The little girl shaked her head. "Well, my name is Ben. Whats yours?" "Alice" said the little kid. "Well Alice, we are going to run a bit, okay? Just keep close to me." And after these words, they ran.

Ben stopped for a moment to look around. The house where they were just in was engulfed in flames. Inside you could see some zombies walking around aimlessly, burning like walking torches. Ben knew there was nothing he could do. As soon as he looked towards Alice, the house burned down and she felt a bit shocked. Poor Alice. Lost her family at such young age, and now Ben was the onliest one who could take care of her. Ben was thinking about his wife. Alice reminded Ben about her. Especially those eyes were reminding Ben about her. Ben kept thinking about his wife, until Alice said "why are you crying?" Ben was a bit shocked that he was crying. He tried to cover his tears up, and said "Well Alice, you remind me of my wife. She was looking just like you." Alice knew how hard it was for Ben.

Season 1 - Episode 10: A new guest

Ben never knew that gasoline could taste soo badly. He was siphoning all the gasoline from the landmower with a tube into the bottles. After filling a good amount of bottles, he knew that he had enough to have some fun tonight.

When the night came, he put the bottles on the street, with a lit candle on top. When he shot the bottle, the fluid would get out, eventually a zombie would trip it over, setting it on fire. At least, that was the plan. He set up his trap, and went upstairs. The room where he was in looked like a room from a kid. Looking at the pictures, it looked like it was a happy family.

Ben leaned out of the window. He needed to make sure that the zombies were actually coming. At this moment he was seeing nobody. He shot in the air, and soon enough, zombies started to walk towards the trap. He shot one bottle, two bottles, and at the third bottle a candle fell over. Suddenly the whole block was on fire. It seemed Ben had overestimated the size of his experiment. As soon as he got back in, he heard an explosion. Then another one. It seemed that the bottles exploded due to the explosive gasses.

But as soon as Ben tried to run away, he heard a noise. A little girl came out of the closet. "Where is mummy?" said the little girl. Ben was shocked. This little girl survived the zombie attack. Ben heard another bang, this time he saw smoke coming from downstairs. "No time, we have to go!" Ben told the little girl. "But I dont want to go. Mummy said that I have to wait here...". Ben knew that there was no time, so he took the little frightened girl in his arms and started to run downstairs. Flames were already coming under the front door, and smoked began to peer inside. Meanwhile the little girl was screaming like hell.

Season 1 - Episode 9: Marauders

The night was quiet. Ben evaded most of the zombies, but he had to be careful not to get too overconfident. It seemed most of the zombies were dorment during the day, because at night there were more zombies than before. During the next days, Ben looted a lot of houses. Most of them came empty, a couple of times he encountered heavy resistance from a group of zombies (probably the old residents that locked themselves in, poor bastards) and he even encountered a group of marauders. Fortunately for him they were only carrying knifes, but it was a warning towards Ben that he had to be careful, wherever he went.

The rations that Ben ate began to taste awful. It was over 2 weeks now since he killed his wife, and he stayed pretty much alive. Walking around the city and hiding at night were the two main things that made sure that he survived. But the encounters with zombies became worse and worse. Ben needed a new way to defend himself.

That new way came 2 days later, in the form of a big landmower. It would take too much noise to ride the lawnmower, so Ben decided to take the gasoline out and convert it into molotov cocktails. That way he was sure that he could survive. After opening lots of bottles and draining all the good wine in the drain (Ben really wanted to drink, but he knew he couldnt) he started to make molotov cocktails.

Season 1 - Episode 8: Escape

As soon as the first zombie came in sight, Ben pulled the trigger. The whole front door shattered into pieces, and 3 zombies fell to the earth. "One" shouted Ben. He knew he had to act fast, because he had only got 8 rounds in his shotgun. He began running outside, towards the zombies.

Some zombies were surprised to see Ben running down the street, before they realised he was a walking dinner. Other zombies were alerted by the sound, and as soon as Ben started running outside, they walked towards him. "Two" shouted Ben while shooting towards a group of zombies. Ben didnt knew where he was going. He wanted to get out of this place as fast as possible.

When Ben wanted to run around the corner, a zombie was blocking the road. Ben aimed and shot his head off. "Three!". He started to enjoy it. It reminded him of the time when he was young. Every time he asked his father if he could go to the fair, because there was a shooting stand where you could shoot ducks. Every time he came home with a gun. Unfortunately, due to an accident where his father was shot and killed, Ben never wanted to touch a gun again. But now, when he saw the zombies falling down, he began to enjoy the feeling of the past. "Four", and another group of zombies fell to the earth. Looking behind him, he saw that the zombies stopped following him.

Finally, after a good run, Ben stopped for breath. Running was much more worse than he had hoped for. Never did he run so fast in his life. He pauzed for a moment, until he heard a sound, which he knew was another zombie looking for him. Ben began to walk again.

Season 1 - Episode 7: Getting ready

Ben jumped over the fence. Just as he was on the middle of the fence, someone grabbed his feet. Ben started kicking frantically, and the hand loosened his grip, which made Ben fall facedown on the other side. With a loud "thud" fell Ben on top of the bag. Ben couldnt resist to let out a curse. He almost got killed. He knew that the zombies would find another way to come to him, he was too tasty to let go so easely.

He had to go, the backyard wasnt safe enough. He knew that if he went indoor, his barricade would help him survive. He grabbed the bag and started dragging it inside. When he was inside, he heard the zombies getting out of the house, making lots of noise on the way. Some zombies started to pound on his front door. He knew that if he kept quiet, they would get away.

But they didnt. More and more came banging on the door. Ben knew that if he wanted to survive, he had to act now. He grabbed a bag that he could carry on his back, and started to put cans, blankets and ammo in the bag. He knew that the onliest way to survive was the fact that he had to get out of the house and on to somewhere safe. He loaded all the guns that he had, and put his trustworthy baseball bat on his back. When he was out of ammo, then he had got something to swing. He began standing in front of the door, listening to the noise outside and the bangs to the door.

Season 1 - Episode 6: Bare luck

The zombie began to charge. Ben frantically tried to reload, and just as the zombie was touching him, Ben closed his eyes and pulled the trigger. A huge explosion followed, making Ben completely deaf for a moment. When he slowly opened his eyes, he saw the zombie lying in front of him, in his head a gaping hole. Ben couldnt believe that he was so lucky.

He knew that he had to act quickly, because he heard sounds coming from outside and he also heard something trembling upstairs. There were more of them. He quickly ran into the bedroom, grabbed all the sheets and stuff he could: A torchlight, desinfectant and rubber gloves. In a small drawer he found more shells and a small handgun. He had no time to look for special things, he grabbed everything he could and dumped it in his bag.

Outside the moaning became louder. Ben knew that it was just a matter of time before they finally reached him, and as soon as they reached him, he would be dead before he could reload the gun. While he was running towards the stairs, another door opened and just as the zombie wanted to get through the door, Ben kicked the door shut with his foot. "Mwwaaahhhrrrrhhh" was the sound that came behind the door. "He's pissed off" thought Ben, while he was running for his life. Behind him he heard the crack from the front door.

Running for his life, he almost tripped on the zombie in the kitchen. The zombies were marching inside, and he was running with that heavy bag on his back. He ran out the backdoor, threw the bag full of stuff over the fence and started shooting. One zombie, two zombies... It looked like they came out the back door like they didnt care. As soon as Ben heard a click, he threw his gun over the fence and started running, the zombies closely behind him.

Season 1 - Episode 5: Death

In the middle of the kitchen were 2 corpses. One had his head blown off. By the looks of it propably a zombie. When Ben turned the other corpse around, he looked straight in the eyes of his neighbour. It seemed that he killed himself with a shotgun, after killing the corpse. Closer examination revealed the ugly truth: He had been bitten. Ben could only guess what happened here.

Due to the foul smell of the corpse, he had to act quickly or he would faint because of the odors. He grabbed the shotgun that was lying around, together with the shells. Ben knew that his neighbour always had a shotgun ready in case "Aliens were coming and this would prevent them to take him in their spaceship", but this was not the spaceship he had hoped for.

In a drawer he found some bags. He filled the bags with the contents of the fridge, and threw them over the fence. At least he got enough rations for the rest of the week. Ben went upstairs, slowly while holding the gun in his hand. When a zombie tried to attack him, he would face the barrel first. When he finally was upstairs, he heard a door slowly opening behind him, and Ben turned around. In the middle of the door stood a zombie. Ben pulled the trigger, only to hear a loud click.

Season 1 - Episode 4: Exploration

Ben woke up from a big nightmare. Everywhere he looked he saw his wife's face. Eventually he woke up screaming like hell. Luckely it was just a nightmare, and not real. Ben knew that he couldnt stay in his house much longer like this. He had to improvise and gather food.

He grabbed his trusty bat, ate some food, and jumped over the fence. In the far distance he heard an explosion. Ben was not interested in the explosion. He knew that if he was going to survive, he had to grab everything useful that he could find.

When he opened the door, he felt a chill down his spine. Someone or something was down here. It felt like something tried to suck all the life out of you. He knew that he had to be swift. If he was here too long, the zombies might know what he was doing. Ben went slowly to the kitchen.

He hadnt seen anyone. Although the phone was dead, the power was still on. That meant that the zombies hadnt raided the local powerplant yet. This was lucky for Ben, since he knew that as long as the powerplant was running, he had a shot for survival. However, when he opened the kitchen, a gruesome event awaited him.

Season 1 - Episode 3: The Lockdown

Ben looked at his dead wife. How had it come this far? What happened that she had to die such a cruel way? He took a shovel from the garden shed, and started digging a hole. At least she deserves a proper burial. Few hours digging later, he dumped her in the hole, and closed the hole back. With some tools Ben made a wooden cross. He carved "Mary Loomland" on the cross, and slammed it next to the hole. He wished she had a better burial, but Ben knew that with this outbreak, there was nobody who could help him right now. He was on his own.

After he made sure that the house was zombie free, Ben began thinking how to fortify his house. His front door was a huge mess, and everyone could peek through the windows. First thing was to make sure that he didnt drew attention to him. Ben got all the bedsheets he could get, and he nailed a bedsheet in front of every window. That would take care of any curious zombies. After putting a small hole in the bedsheets (so Ben could still peek outside) he began thinking about replacing the door. He knew that the neighbours had a pretty sturdy door, but he couldnt get in from the front. Ben got his bat and went to the back door. When he got out, he locked the door and jumped over the fence.

They left their back door open. Luck was on his side, because the keys were also there. Ben pulled the door from his hinges, threw it over the fence, and jumped after it. At least they wont come inside so easely. After installing the door, he had a rather small lunch to preserve food. It seemed that although the zombies had cut down power to the phone, they hadnt cut the power to the electricity, and if he really had to he could also turn on an generator.

Season 1 - Episode 2: Payback time

Ben knew there was a baseball bat in the garage. If he could only reach it before they came in. Ben ran to the garage. No baseball bat. "Where is that goddamd baseball bat?" cursed Ben. And then it struck him. Someone used the baseball bat to give him a huge slap on his head. Ben ran back to the bedroom. Just as he ran upstairs, he heard a loud crack beneath him, and he knew he was in trouble.

As soon as he came in the bedroom, he barricaded the door. It wasnt much, but at least the guy wouldnt come marching inside. Soon after he found the baseball bat. "Okay dude, now its my turn!" and with these words he removed the barricade and opened the door.

Ben didnt had to wait long. As soon as he opened the door, he saw a zombie coming up on the stairs. With a big hard swing he hit the zombie on his head, shattering his brain. "Homerun!" shouted Ben. The zombie tumbled down, knocking the other zombie over. Ben ran downstairs. The other zombie tried to stand up. Ben looked at her, thinking that he had to kill his own wife. With tears in his eyes, he raised the bat and landed it straight on his wife's head. Everything went silent again.

Season 1 - Episode 1: Welcome to the world

Slowly Ben raised his head. His vision was still blurry. He was trying to remember what happened. The last thing he can remember was the fact that something hit his head pretty hard, before that, it was all black. When the blurryness in his eyes went away, Ben tried to stand up. He was still a bit shakey. After a quick look around, he finally knew where he was. He was in the bedroom. But why? Ben's headache was coming back up. He stumbled towards the bathroom.

When he opened the tap to get some water for the aspirin, there was nothing coming out. "What the heck?" Ben thought. "Mary, why isnt there any water?" screamed Ben. No answer. Maybe someone took her with her? He didnt know. After finding some cold water in the fridge and an aspirin later, he began looking for Mary. She should be somewhere in the house? "Mary, where are you?" shouted Ben. Nobody answered. This is getting freaky. Where is everyone? "Marryyyy!!!"

Suddenly he heard a loud bang. In total shock, Ben looked around. Where was that sound coming from? He walked up to the window. Pure terror came into his eyes. He was looking straight at his wife. But this wasnt his wife. It looked exactly like her, but he felt something was terribly wrong. He kept staring at her, until she turned her head.

Then Ben started to totally panic. Half of her head was no longer there. It looked like someone had torn all the flesh from her bone. "Wha... Wha... What the?" were the words Ben could say. Then he heard the bang again. This time he knew it was coming from the front door. Now Ben was really terrified. What has happened?

Ben ran to the phone, and picked it up. No tone. "Goddammit" shouted Ben. He knew that if he didnt do anything, he was in big trouble. Someone killed his wife, made her into something gruesome walking around in his garden, and he knew that this person was standing in front of his door.
